Go Green with Microsoft Visio 2007: You can’t get enough fun with Visio, the Green Data Center Blog pointed to Microsoft Visio Green IT Tools page. Two Ho-Tos worth reading on HVAC Monitoring[pdf] and Rack Servers Virtualization [pdf] and one whitepaper [pdf] are available.

[fr] Microsoft : Centre des usages entreprises : a good introduction to IT range of services, really pragmatic and user-friendly resources for an IT department to explain any collaboration, unified communication project.
How We Built a Web Hosting Infrastructure on EC2 : Cloud computing is a wonder for all companies who are owning mainly internally their infrastructure. Any Private Clouds ?
Reading last Tim O’Reilly post: Inauguration Moments and Links, I paused on links 5 and 6 he commented, as they could be worth a study by themselves – “Collective Visualization”. That brings me a lot of thoughts on collaboration, well refreshed by his two examples:
- Collective Photsynth representation of Inauguration at CNN – contribution is made by sending your picture of that event. It is not an automatic process and I don’t know if Microsoft’s Photosynth supports it. I am not sure about considerations payed to the time line and if the global/final result is valuable for history. A distortion could happen has the pictures were taken as defined at the moment when Obama takes the oath. Does the power of collaboration has the drawback of introducing a tiny quantity of uncertainty (one piece of FUD trio). It just feels like we are at the beginning of such representations of facts or events.
- Another aspect of collaboration, limited to visualizations : Many Eyes . One of the many projects of an IBM research Group on Collaborative User Experience . I experienced it as working on the same data set, producing different visualizations of it in order to contribute to the conversation.
Wordle is a must try/see as well.
I could refer to collaborative productions too, as studied by Charles Leadbeater in its We-Think: Mass innovation, not mass production book (available in Europe since Feb 2008) and various speeches (attended one keynote at Cisco Networkers 2008 on Innovation).
Cisco moved long time ago on this, and you can see a lot of results coming or it is only making noise now.
This site is hosted in a directory : www.airaud.net/blog . I found it easier to manage, having this contained: at the root, you can play with others nice software like Dotclear or your own code. But something went wrong… It is a web redirection and Google story that follows.
Fast Company : Ten Best Green Jobs for the Next Decade : I like the “Green Energy Czar” too from Google’s Bill Weihl. Sometimes, evangelism is not enough.
Intel Testing Solar Power for Datacenters : although this article deals mainly with Intel new initiative, it also scans the state of major IT actors action in solar energy projects (Google, Microsoft and Sun).
Must read : Tim Ferri’s ChangeThis: The Low-Information Diet: How to Eliminate E-Mail Overload & Triple Productivity in 24 Hours. Fan of ChangeThis, I missed that one but this (old 2007 2007 is not old, it is just relative) post from Tim Ferriss’ Fourhourworkweek reminded me, via another mustread Zenhabits. Yeah, Internet is complex and full of name dropping, shame.
